About Melody

Melody is a Mystic native who spent time traveling the country only to find that there truly is no place like home. She has been cooking professionally since 2006 and has had the honor to work in some of the country's best restaurants. Melody wasn't actively looking to open her own place, but in 2015 the pieces started falling into place and when the opportunity arose it was impossible to say, "No." Now she independently owns and operates Rise as well as taking on the role of executive chef. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her loved ones, petting dogs, and listening to David Bowie.

forbes: A Connecticut Town That Is More Than Its Magical Pizza

Started by a former Oyster Club employee, Rise is a breakfast and lunch spot giving off a quaint “clam shack-y” vibe right by the water, and continues the trend of locally-sourced ingredients. You’ll find interesting omelettes packed with anything from bacon and cheese to kale and almonds, and breakfast staples like french toast or pancakes, as well as some simple but nevertheless delicious sandwiches like a turkey club…

conde nast traveler: 7 Small Towns in the U.S. That Are Secret Food Destinations

Mystic Pizza has long been a hotspot since the titular 1988 rom-com, but the town is so much more than that. “Mystic is an eccentric amalgamation of chefs and purveyors with innovative approaches to using the best products in the region and a commitment to sustainability,” Whaler’s Inn and Shipwright’s Daughter restaurants president Amanda Arling says. She adds that sugar kelp harvesting, an operational commercial fishing fleet, and rich history of organic and sustainable farming has also made an impact on the food scene…Then head to Rise, owned by Mystic native Melody Pere, for elevated lunch options, like a grilled cheese with provolone or a Buddha bowl made with seasonal ingredients. Fill your afternoon with visits to Bank + Bridge Brewing, Barley Head Brewery, Jonathan Edwards Winery, or Saltwater Farm Vineyards (or all of them) for brews on tap, wine tastings, and snacks.

The E List: BREAKFAST ALL DAY AT RISE IN MYSTIC

It’s never made much sense to me that the sort of cheerful and bright restaurant that serves breakfast stops serving it at lunchtime. I mean, why not offer bacon and eggs all day? Who, exactly, decided these foodstuffs are solely meant for the breakfast table? Personally, I think all that protein works better for lunch, and so do the folks behind the happy new joint, Rise, in Mystic. I headed over in between times, around 11:30. After pouring myself a cup of coffee from the mismatched collection at the counter I settled in for a feast of a perfectly cooked and local sunny-side-up, a splattering of the most delicious hash browns.

ct insider: Mystic chosen as 'secret food destination' by Condé Nast Traveler magazine

"In less bold-faced-named cities...local bites offer a true flavor of the destination, lending insight into its food, culture, people, and landscape," author Emily Cappiello wrote. Cappiello references Mystic hotspots like Deviant Donuts in Olde Mistick Village, Rise (for "elevated lunch options") Oyster Club, with its five-course "dinner party" tasting menu; Red 36 "for the sea views" and Bravo Bravo, "renowned for its housemade pasta." The blurb also notes downtown Mystic breweries Barley Head and Bank + Bridge and local Stonington-area wineries Jonathan Edwards and Saltwater Farm. Amanda Arling, president of The Whaler's Inn and its Shipwright's Daughterrestaurant, told Cappiello: "Mystic is an eccentric amalgamation of chefs and purveyors with innovative approaches to using the best products in the region and a commitment to sustainability."

washington post: Where to eat breakfast, lunch & dinner in Mystic, Conn.

Get cozy as you start your day at Rise (risemysticct.com; 860-415-9519; 10 Water St.), a sunny breakfast and lunch spot with just 22 seats (30 if you count outdoor tables). The first thing you’ll see upon entering is a serve-yourself coffee nook outfitted with a hodgepodge of novelty mugs — an indication that chef and owner Melody Pere’s spot doesn’t take itself too seriously. (Nor do the locals, who have begun donating to the quirky collection.) The unlimited java comes from Mystic Coffee Roasters, a few blocks away. Rise’s menu is modest but rewarding, with inventive egg dishes, fluffy pancakes and challah French toast that’s slightly crispy on the outside and creamy in the middle. The brisket hash, prepared in-house, is moist and rich with just a kick of spice, making it a perfect foil to the eggs, home fries and toast served alongside. Standout breakfast sandwiches include the Little Mel, with an egg, bacon, cheddar, aioli and local greens; and the PB&B, a savory and satisfying (if messy) meeting of an egg, bacon and peanut butter on an English muffin.

The magazine, which has 5 million monthly readers and 16 million digital users, published the list on Oct. 28 to show that “good eating never was limited to metropolises — great restaurants, craft spirits, and fantastic flavors are waiting to be found in less assuming destinations.” In Mystic, the restaurants mentioned in the list are Deviant Doughnuts, Shipwright’s Daughter, Oyster Club, Red 36 Bar + Grill, Bravo Bravo, Rise, Bank + Bridge Brewing, Barley Head Brewery, Jonathan Edwards Winery and Saltwater Farm Vineyards.
